INTERVIEW WITH LUCA MAHNKE
How long have you been doing movies? How did you decide to start making movies?
I’ve always been fascinated by how movies can tell stories that are difficult to express with words alone. What drew me to filmmaking was the opportunity to convey my visions through images and, in doing so, evoke emotions in people. Over time, this fascination evolved into a desire to tell my own stories. I wanted to create films that would stay with people long aIer the credits rolled, films that would inspire them to reflect on their own lives and experiences.
Why did you do this project?
I just wanted to make a movie, without a budget, just shooting something with friends. So I wrote the story of Louis and Iris over the summer . Vena Amoris is a story about love, friendship, and the choices we make when our feelings conflict with our sense of loyalty. For me, the film is about the things we never say, the opportunities we miss, and the question of whether some moments in life can ever truly come back.
(If you can say). How much budget did you have to do this project?
We had a total Budget of only 500€. Was it self-funded or did you get budget/producers/investors?
We self funded the project.
How long did it take from the initial idea to being able to release?
3 months
Are you happy with the result?
Yes, I'm really happy with the result!
What phase is this project in right now? Are you in the initial phase of sending it to festivals, middle phase or finishing the circuit?
The film is currently in the initial stage of its festival journey.I'm looking forward to sharing it with different audiences and seeing how people connect with the story.
Normally, filmmakers use many references, favorite directors, favorite movies, etc. Were you inspired by any director or film? If so, tell us your references.
Not at all for this one, I just wrote it and told the story the way I wanted to, without focusing on references.
Your favorite movie?
Lord of the rings
Favorite series?
Breaking Bad
Do you see yourself making movies in 5 years? Where do you see yourself?
I want to keep making movies for the rest of my life
Do you have any other project in mind?
Yes ;)
What do you ask for the future? (cinematographically speaking)
I hope for a future in which cinema continues to take creative risks and gives independent filmmakers the freedom to tell personal, unconventional stories.
Your best experience in a movie theater?
When the room is full.
