INTERVIEW with Josan Bailac
Aylan's dream is the story of an almost 11-year-old Italian boy who dreams of being a soccer player in 1993. He lives in a small town in Tuscany called Pitigliano with his mother. One succession of inappropriate behaviour and a capital altercation lead to his expulsion from the school. This trigger serves for Emilia, her mother, to go to the social worker to give your life situation a turn, and entrust your sister Valentia with the care of the little one.

How long have you been doing movies? How did you decide to start making movies?
The truth is that this is my first movie. I wrote a book that sold a lot, I made the second part of the story, it also sold. And after that, I continued writing the third one. One day I was offered from a production company to buy my story.
Many readers had told me that it would be a great story for the big screen, so I looked for a director, became a producer and threw myself into the river.
Why did you do this project?
Because I felt I had to do it. I thought the story had to go from paper to screen because it was worth it.
(If you can say). How much budget did you have to do this project?
Very little, and it has cost much more than budgeted and much more than I have and have been able to get, hehe.
Was it self-funded or did you get budget/producers/investors?
Almost everything was private financing, although it is true that I received support from the entities and municipalities where it was recorded and from the Provincial Council of Huesca, the province in which the film was shot in its entirety.
How long did it take from the initial idea to being able to release?
Approximately one year. I looked for the director, I sent him the book, he thought the idea was great and we started talking. We made a presentation of the project on November 23 and on August 24 we started filming.
Are you happy with the result?
Without a doubt. It is above my expectations, and I also feel a lot of happiness and pride.
What phase is this project in right now? Are you in the initial phase of sending it to festivals, middle phase or finishing the circuit?
We are starting our journey in festivals, so we are excited to publicise our project. As soon as we start, we have already been selected with a couple of nominations.
How has your experience been with the festivals so far? Where do you think they should improve?
As I tell you, we just started, but at the moment I see very good predisposition and organisation.
Could you tell us which platforms you use to submit your entries to festivals?
Yes, of course. I'm using two: FilmFreeway y FestHome.
Normally, filmmakers use many references, favorite directors, favorite movies, etc.
Were you inspired by any director or film? If so, tell us your references.
The truth is that yes. One of the movies that I noticed and tried to copy his style, in addition to being very much in line with ours, Italy, 90s, is Sorrentino's feature film "Fu la mano De Dios"
Your favorite movie?
It's hard to name just one, but my taste for movies goes from Gladiator to Revenge Fire or The Rock.
Favorite series?
All those of my childhood and that marked us with fire: V, the A team or the fantastic car.
Do you see yourself making movies in 5 years? Where do you see yourself?
That's a good question. Why not. I have two more books that give continuity to this story.
Do you have any other project in mind?
Not at the moment, we want to enjoy the tour of this one, and then as I have told you, see if it is worth following the story.
What do you ask for the future? (cinematographically speaking)
That all the effort has been worth it. The process has been hard but the illusion of being able to show something that has come out of my head, is the greatest of the successes.
Your best experience in a movie theater?
I nostalgically remember the premiere of Titanic. I was young and the cinema in my town was so full that they had to add plastic chairs in the central corridor.
